Metamorphosis is a play based upon the franz kafka novella of the same name and is a story of transformation both of gregor from travelling salesman to insectoid creature, but also of the transformation of his family and their behaviour and attitudes towards him and their family roles as they all cope and adapt around his transformations as they progress.

The Old Rep Theatre

This was my first time visiting the old rep theatre and it’s located in the area’s behind Birmingham new street central, whilst previously in a part of the city rarely visited due to the layout of the town it now benefits from the newly opened nature of the train station and perhaps might become a bigger venue as this side of the town gets regenerated with businesses taking advantage of the expansion to this area.

Inside the venue itself it is essentially a single production establishment with a small side café, the view of the stage is ensured through the chair layout so you’re able to take in the show without distractions. The lighting and fog effects of the venue made it a very atmospheric show, and if it wasn’t for the occasional eye contact with the actors on stage you could compare it to a close up experience of a movie at the cinema, except with true 3D because actually it’s a stage show for those who have never been to a play themselves.

The Metamorphosis

The show opens with a little transitional white noise and flickering of lights as the actors scurry into position, this is both a moody way of establishing time passing but also a convenient way of masking scenery and actor changing transitions as well as maybe establishing something isn’t quite right and this effect is used throughout the show to great effect. I do believe there’s one point later where perhaps the transition was missed or should have been there during the performance I saw however that’s probably the only gripe I would have with the show as overall the actors put on a great performance and it was a very enjoyable show.

All of the actors portrayed their character roles very well putting across suitable emotional levels for each stage of the performance in both their voices and mannerisms and in particular the main character of gregor was well performed throughout his transitions from self sacrificing brother through to his insectoid nature and inner thoughts grasping onto his humanity until the end all of which were acted out expertly from his insect like slight buzzing and struggling to his voice through to his final transformation with shoulder blades sticking out in very insect like manners and creeping around cautiously like an insect trying not to get spotted as he desired to hear his sister sing one last time, something he always loved as a human and had actively sacrificed his life to ensure he could afford to send her to the conservatoire; a famous and renowned school for the performing arts. Clearly showing that even at the end he was still grasping onto his humanity and simply wanted to hear her singing voice closer and be closer to what was the core part of his humanity.

Transformation is a key part of this play and whilst you might presume that the show alone is about gregor and his transition into an insectoid creature there are many more transformations to consider throughout the show. Whilst initially I presumed he was transforming into some sort of corporate individual as the actor who portrayed the face of many roles wore a white face with black eyeliner in a style I would associate with “we happy few” which may indeed be Kafkaesque but I may be unfamiliar with or perhaps even be theatre commonality for someone who would be playing many roles, however this was put to rest pretty soon as the boss with this makeup visited gregor at his home stating he would need to see a doctor about the matter.

During his transformation process gregor loses his job, perhaps as a result of his illness or perhaps resulting from being late to work one single time when he had an illness who is to say for sure, however this leads to his family having to take over his responsibilities to earn money as he had essentially giving his life working non stop to ensure they could live the lives they deserved, wishing to fund his sister to pursue her dreams, and ensuring his parents could enjoy their retirement without worry and providing additional funds for them in case of emergencies all without ever complaining despite only getting 4 hours of sleep per night.

Initially his sister looks after him as he’s stuck in his room making sure he gets enough food to eat, and even ensuring it’s something he can enjoy as his tastes change during his illness. Throughout the play however this changes over time through fear and concern to an unwanted chore looking after what she considers an unwanted monster who has destroyed her brother believing there’s nothing left of him inside and wanting this reminder of what she believes to have killed her brother to just be gone from the house and to stop being a financial burden holding her family back from living the life she desires. Obviously there are a lot of subtle subtexts to read throughout the show from him only wanting the best for her and a lot to watch out for as the relationships between the two evolve.

The father has to take up the mantle of main producer for the family after gregor loses his job and whilst initially he takes up the mantle of gregor’s former position as travelling salesman he quickly becomes bitter about having to work non stop and never having any form of life only going to work and returning home to eat and sleep, and whilst this might fuel his rage towards gregor for letting him down by circumstances outside his control it also shows just how unappreciative his family are for what he had done up until now, having lived this job and life for 5 years prior to this transformation without ever a word of complaint and actually happy that he could ensure his family lived a good and simple life, yet having to do this himself for a short time the father instead blames gregor for what has happened and for not being able to retire and spend time with his family. This leads him to resort to leasing out a spare room to a tenant who demands further transformations to the house, leading to gregor being treated like a locked in animal stored with the unwanted trash of the house.

All of these transformations are well acted and well portrayed by the cast, and the pacing of the story feels pretty good along with suitable time wipe transitions showing events progressing, as well as the creature like hiding under the bed being used to good effect to allow the actor to escape off stage to apply further makeup and change into his next transition of the illness. Whilst I do believe there may have been more the family could have done throughout the story, from sending him to an uncaring doctor who seemed to care more about observing the novelty of the transformations than actually curing the condition along with his family keeping him locked up and treating him like a caged animal throughout rather than attempting to maintain his humanity. I’m sure that his family only acted this way initially out of fear and refusing to face the truth as they all avoided him as much as possible.

I do feel like the end of the story portrayed the family being quite cold about the whole situation without any residual care that gregor had died, instead being glad that they could move on with life and get out of the place though I am sure this is because in their hearts they felt he had died long ago and they were simply custodians of some form of unwanted creature I do feel like there could have been a little care or remorse there, perhaps some sort of emotional release, though this is down to the way kafka wrote the story as opposed to the portrayal of the actors.

Overall Impressions

From beginning to end the story and portrayal is very intriguing, and though there are some comedic characters like the doctors assistant for the most part it’s a gripping emotional story revolving around how the family cope with this unexpected transformation nobody was prepared for. As I have stated the actors convey this very well behaving as you would expect a family to behave through a range of emotions transitioning from shock and concern into being burdened by a problem everyone including gregor just wishes was over. And while there are deeper seeded subtleties to watch out for like gregor holding onto his humanity as much as possible unnoticed by his sister and family and their desperation for any sign of humanity from him along with not realising just how much he had looked after them and perhaps what was supposed to be a revelation that gregor had been saving up for his sister to study at the conservatoire throughout his job but had never mentioned (even though it was hinted at early and I had already caught on before the transformation even occurred.) the plot and acting are both very good and gripping and I would definitely recommend going to see the performance if you were considering it, and to go see for yourself the story unfold and make your own assumptions and impressions of what is going on and how the family are reacting to the situation unfolding.

Metamorphosis is on now at the old rep theatre in Birmingham and you can find out more about it at https://www.oldreptheatre.co.uk/calendar/?calid=2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10,11,1,12&pid=3&viewid=1&event=97 and beginning a uk theatre tour which may be available in your area soon.

GreenManGaming have had a loyalty scheme pending for some time and people have been wondering what the prizes would be as loyalty points were earnt and many speculations were made, however nobody expected that all prizes would be actually all AAA best seller titles for the month, and at least for it’s inaugural outing there are 5 prizes on offer with equal odds of winning and all of them are top selling titles on the site.

The games available to win in the wheel are as follows:

Monster Hunter World
Fallout 76
Assassins Creed Odyssey
Hitman 2
Just Cause 4

All of which have an even chance of winning and you can have a maximum of 3 entries at a cost of 100 greenbacks the loyalty points earnt on the site, the official word is that there should be one wheel of mystery per month at random intervals unannounced so it’s best to be part of the site and regular to know when it goes live and take part in the opportunity to get something, it’s hard to say if all future prizes will be as good but I presume that as this month all prizes on the wheel will be shown on the page along with the odds of winning each one, and the only way to gain entry is through the loyalty points on the site. There is always a chance that all of the rewards every month will be great titles, and perhaps be the top titles for each month as it goes live, but really who is to say as it could be any selection of items on the site and may even have chances of discounts as the prizes are discount codes to claim 100% off a purchase on the site and get your code.

My video shows my spins, I was a little enthusiastic and span my first one before starting recording not quite believing that you would definitely get the item, however it seems every spin is a winner, and whilst they’ve got limited supplies of codes so it’s a first come first served, as long as you’ve got the loyalty points to play you can get a good game, and the site itself usually has pretty good deals and bargains throughout the year, including at xmas where the seasonal sales not only had good discounts on selected titles but also included credit + packs that gifted out free games with the purchase of credit, and an encore 99p mystery code sale on some pretty good titles. All codes are legitimate direct from the publishers so the site is definitely to be trusted, and you might just see me in the forums, after all I’ve earnt all those points being active on the site.

I ended up winning monster hunter world, and just cause 4 (with a duplicate of that to gift, and would happily swap for assassins creed odyssey or hitman 2 if anyone ends up with a duplicate playing themselves.

I have started using my twitch channel more on the path to affiliate and doing dedicated streams over there where I can interact with my audience, and while I have been growing it by uploading the prerecorded video’s and doing reruns at present I will be moving to actual livestreams over on the channel.

Twitch decided to remove the ability to run premieres of video’s and reruns for those under affiliate level at the same time that youtube seems to be testing out premieres on it’s on site, bring both sites ever closer to being competitors with twitch now including uploaded video’s but specialising in livestreams and youtube being the opposite slowly but surely both sites are coming closer to offering the full range of services in an effective manner.

Through video premieres alone my channel has been growing, and since they announced they were removing these features I decided to do a test in one of those if you remove my toy’s I will play with them sorts of thing and ran three separate 24 hour livestreams encouraging followers and showing off the sort of content I produce over the channel with variety gaming streaming and IRL content. Each of these averaged around 5 new followers and if I had been left to be able to run long reruns on the channel I could have affiliate level followers in no time, however since this is now not the case I have to look elsewhere to grow my followship on twitch.

Whilst the suggestion that premieres would be removed seemed to suggest that video uploads would also be removed entirely that is not the case, and these seem to still premiere on the channel regardless so perhaps they turned around their idea on this matter rather than remove any ability to produce content other than livestreams, or this may be being phased out slower who is to say.

In the effort of growing my channel to a size that I can start earning money off of it and be worthy of running actual livestreams with chat open and interactivity I have decided to run a giveaway on the site, and where previous pretenders have put me off running any competitions because of their illicit activities I have found a way to run an actual legitimate competition through gleam. Gleam offer a good service that validates entries and also draws the winner at random without any suggestion of rigging or preference, and with the ability to embed it right here on the site you know it’s legitimate and not being run by a scammer pretending to be affiliated with the site and trying to steal keys from developers by pretending to be associated with the site.

I am giving away some old spare steam keys I have leftover from duplicates of games I already owned from humble bundle purchases I have made in the past, this is my first time running gleam so I’m unsure if I can simply redraw winners until I’ve exhausted all of the spare keys I have or if I have to set them exactly before hand, but there will be multiple winners and the key could be random from any of the duplicates I have. Once you have received your key there will be no replacements but you’re free to give away your key to anyone you like if you already own the game, if not I hope you enjoy your prize.

There are a variety of ways to enter the competition below, obviously the primary reason for this is for the path to affiliate on twitch to encourage new followers to the channel and streams which is why this offers the most points, and there are some other options such as subscribing on youtube and to bloglovin, as well as following the steam curator page. I can see in the gleam app if these are invalid and invalid entries will be removed so be sure to actually follow any of the channels or services where stated and remain following or subscribed by the end of the competition for your entry to remain valid. Those of you who follow my twitter will see I like and retweet any twitter entries where I get notifications in my feed, and I appreciate the new followers over there too.

There are some really good games in the mix, obviously good enough that I already owned them and you’ve got a fairly good chance of winning right now so get your entry in and follow along, obviously now the follower count is getting up there I will start arranging a schedule for streams and be sure to be live on those streams regularly the first of which I can guarantee is to be live for hearthstone tavern brawls every Wednesday at 9pm GMT perhaps with bonus content that wouldn’t be on a regular shorter youtube video and longer extended gameplay over there, and I will make a schedule for other games I will be doing over on the channel too like interactive dead cells with captain chicken and other twitch based games like choice chamber, so be sure to follow and tune in if you want to be involved in these interactive games.

Good luck and thankyou for entering

Path To Affiliate Competition

Having started a new job where I had been working 58 hours a week in the building it was good to get some time off and the opportunity arose to get on the guest list for the stone sour gig at the birmingham arena which I jumped at to get some R&R as well as do something with my time off.

The opening act were the pretty reckless who I had not had the opportunity to hear before, so I was pleasantly suprised by the act coming out strong with some good tunes, the act did start with what can only be described as the lead singer’s sex noises climbing to climax before they came on, and the sexualisation continued in the music and the singers actions on the stage but this lead to a heated performance which the audience loved.

The music continued to be varied and keep up the pace which many of the warm up acts I’ve experienced before in the years of gig’s I’ve worked at often fail to maintain especially when coming out strong but these guys managed to do it and warm up the audience immediately.

When stone sour themselves came on stage they came out just as strong keeping the audience entertained without too long of a wait between setup. They played newer songs followed by some of the old favourites all of the crowd new encouraging people to join in singing along.

The usual crowd shennanigans were going on from the crush at the front to people trying to start up moshpits, albeit right next to the front which of course failed because it’s impossible to start a pit in the middle of the crush. I pointed out to those attempting to do so they’d have better luck doing so further back so they headed back and of course were successful in making one causing a wave of people to wash past. In the past I have allowed myself to be carried by the crowd however after an incident at download festival I now hold myself steady and unmoving when these waves pass and attempt to stop it entirely. The incident I speak of is when I was at the front crush maybe 3 rows from the front and a large fast wave hit suddenly knocking everyone sideways so much so that people were struggling to stay upright and this lead to me and another girl ending up on the floor under the crowd, where I was being pulled up by a guy on my left but I held out my hand to the girl on the floor as she said “don’t let go” after we were both stuck under the crush of the crowd unable to stand up. I could have allowed myself to be picked up but I wasn’t going to leave her on the floor, however as I was refusing to get up without pulling her upright the crowd lifted me vertically and crowd surfed me over the front barrier and I couldn’t hold on to her hand during all of that and I don’t know if she ever got back up, I do know she was never lifted out the front as she didn’t come over the barrier and the medics couldn’t see if she got lifted out. I did also hear after the festival that year that someone died trampled under the crowd so it does stick with me that perhaps I could have done more especially if I hadn’t let the crowd push me and as a result knock me and her down under everyone so I vowed never to let that happen again, so when someone says I ruin all the fun not allowing myself and others to get knocked down by the wave of crowd then they need to look at their idea of fun, because running people down with a motor vehicle might be just as fun to them but surely going to result in injury or death and not exactly enjoyable to those getting plowed down.

The show continued with an encore resulting in wild wacky wavy arm inflatables being deployed, perhaps upstaging the band when they were fighting for attention and slapping them in the face every time they tied to get up front and center, but it made part of the show just the same.

All in all they put on a good show and it is definitely recommended if you get the chance on the upcoming tour to go see either pretty reckless or stone sour while they are on tour.

On the train I had a feeling seeing a scratch card abandoned on the floor in front of the seat I chose that something wasn’t right about the ticket, and upon picking it up I noticed that it had won, only £1 but a win is a win right? Now this wasn’t going to change my life in any significant form, and probably the reason the person purchasing the ticket discarded it, however I figured that as the purchase price was £1 I would use the ticket to get another ticket and try to see how far we could take the winning streak.

Of course the second ticket won £4, so essentially whoever threw the ticket away could have used it and won another prize, maybe not the £4 I won as they would’ve got another ticket another day but still I was on a winning streak, following my own personal gambling strategy I pocketed half of the money as profits and played on with £2 using lucky pennies I had found on the way.

A lucky penny by definition cannot be one that you have received as change as there is absolutely no luck involved in the procurement of that coin. Now some say that the shinyness of a coin effects how lucky it is and it could be possible as finding a clean shiny penny in the streets would be luckier as most coins would be dirty and used especially just lying about like that. When you take the coin you want to take care not to put it with other coins as much like an electric charge the luck would dissipate and it would just become another coin and worthless lost amongst your change, treat it with respect and care and keep it separate until you are ready to use the coin.

There are a few ways you can use your lucky penny, the first and obvious use here is to scratch off a scratchcard in the hopes of winning, other uses include spending it at a wishing well or lake in a park by flicking it into the water as you make your wish, or making a wish and placing on a point of interest in a public location. Artificial wishing wells may not be as lucky as using it on a public lake, there is less water and it seems so artificial and when everyone has spent lucky pennies there is it truly lucky? Plus you have to get the penny into the water with your flick so having a bigger target does help.

Choose the way in which you spend your lucky penny carefully as you only have one chance to use the luck and once it’s spent it is spent whether you gained favour from the luck or not. If you have used the coin to rub a scratchcard then obviously the coin remains in your possession unlike using it for a wish in other locations, this presents the problem where you do not wish to spend the coin as it would be bad luck after this to do so, instead it would be recommended to donate to a charity and pass on the luck, do not try to gain another piece of luck by flicking into a lake either as the luck is already spent and would give you bad luck to do so.

When donating to a charity I would suggest flipping the coin into the charity pot as a symbol of flipping the bad luck back into good but I wouldn’t say that is important as you are giving the money to charity, passing on the luck and flipping it for extra luck if you wish the luck on the charity can be a good symbolism and I’m sure any charity would understand that, even if you flip it and catch it then place it into the container. If you really want to be extra charitable you could even give them a completely unused lucky coin straight from picking it up and give them your full unused luck as well as a small donation towards their goals, and if their bucket is full of lucky pennies then obviously the dissipation of being amongst other coins isn’t an issue as there are so many lucky coins in the pot it gathers rather than dissipates.

Playing on with the £2 I had a little luck winning a further £1 out of the two tickets, and I used this to play on but with no winnings. I probably beat the odds by winning so frequently but I did maximise my chances by swapping stores and tickets used rather than playing off the same ticket rail which would reduce the chances of winning as if you’ve just purchased a winning ticket off that rail it’s likely the next few won’t win.

Remember to only play with money you can afford to lose, www.gambleaware.co.uk do not chase winnings or victory, and I only played with a ticket I found so I won with no loss to myself, the actual odds of winning are far lower than the 3/5 winning tickets I had here, perhaps a sign lucky pennies work? Judge for yourself, I only played for entertainment purposes and the chance to win big, the odds are stacked against you.

With the plethora of issues I have been fighting against with the council while they tie everything in red tape and be belligerent in avoiding and delaying in every way possible in dealing with the situation they placed me in I finally have a place back in my town, so having lost the majority of my possessions through when they illegally witheld my benefits causing me to lose my home in the first place I unbox the few things I have and the items which were left in my moms attic from my childhood.

This mini-series of video’s follows my progress of sorting through the boxes through getting furniture and putting my life and home back together again to a liveable standard.

A while ago I took part in the random act of kindness challenge to buy a random gift for the first 5 people to respond wanting a gift, obviously as I didn’t really advertise it well enough and make sure people saw it at a time when facebook was really playing up at posting things and visibility I instead chose to purchase 5 gifts for the person who responded.

I started off with a drawing of that person as I knew she was a crafty person and enjoyed hand crafted things so I figured a drawing would be a good gift, of course I’m not the worlds greatest drawer and I felt like this was a little bit of a cop out so continued my search for further gifts, from there I found the doctor who badges and stickers, again a pretty cheap thing so it needed more to go with it.

Another outing I found a crafting book, containing a style she wouldn’t normally work in I figured it would be a good gift as it would be something a little different to try and perhaps a fun gift, finally I found a little dress and bangle to go with it to round out the gifts to 5 and make a package worth sending through the post, all of which I am sure did the job of bringing a smile to her face!

I would encourage you to take part in the challenge and post for the first 5 respondents to get a random act of kindness gift from you at some point in the coming year to bring a smile to their face, especially with the way the world is at present and show that kindness still exists in the world, of course the requirement is they post a similar challenge for their first 5 respondents in order to participate (and send a gift back to you if they wish) spread some kindness and love and show people still care.

And of course for everyone else there’s always internet hugs *hugs*

Day one of EGX 2015 drew to a close, after a long wait at the early entry queue while a video played we eventually got onto the show to have quick look around before I had a day of booked up sessions with developers and press, many of who’m have stated that they will send screenshots and game codes, but obviously not in time for such a quick article as this. I will be focusing on a few of them in detail either in the main article or in their own separate game-play and review articles as necessary.

I started off the show having a play on the upcoming rock band, which I will go into detail more about in the later video. Sufficed to say it is a fun experience and quite easy to grasp the new 6 key system, although a few changes to the controller itself will be missed such as the strum board, and the gimmick of playing live on stage is a much better on screen experience than the usual cartoonish feel of the game.

After this I hit up the playstation and xbox one zones, checking out what they individually had to offer. The xbox area was spread out with separate queue’s for each section and a collectors card system to win a prize if you can play in all segments much like playstation had the previous year. While the playstation zone was very different having a sealed section with queue’s for the games side by side and a few set props visitors could pose for photo’s with.

I had a little time to check out the latest assassins creed, where I decided to try and do everything within the mission parameters within the time limit, failing as I seemed to despawn one of the allies I had and spending far too long attempting to track down his location, even with eagle eye highlighting character locations this proved impossible. The mechanic to essentially zip line between locations made traversing without getting spotted pretty much a predetermined fact, however when it came to the actual free running element I found that you were often stopping where you expected the character to jump off the small ledge as the system appears to have been adapted in a manner that jumping from ledges is not permitted whether you would take damage or not, and jumping while free running is entirely impossible.

This method doesn’t feel as satisfying and correct as previous games, and sometimes when you come to the end of a path you’re running through you find you end up jumping to the side or a path you never intended to and have to go out of your way to get back down to the floor. Other than these factors though the game felt smooth and like a typical assassins creed game, hard to see what other new mechanics there are by such a short demonstration.

I arrived early to the press zone so took the opportunity to watch the latest hitman footage, where it is stated you will travel in varying locations across the world taking out hits on characters in any way you see fit, with a variety of methods depending on your stealth, cunning, patience and exploration of the level you can execute each hit a significant number of different methods, from straight hit and run to downright perfect execution planting c4 on the stage-lights and influencing factors to get the target in question onto the stage to fall victim of a “tragic accident” while you’re in the crowd where it couldn’t possibly be you that caused his death. The developers want you to feel powerful as agent 47 able to use disguises to gain entrance to different area’s and only area’s established for the specific uniforms and that you could essentially roleplay as each of those for as long as you aren’t discovered. A good feature is that the supervisor (or gang leader, or whatever is relevant) of the particular group you’re dressed up as gets highlighted on the map, so you can be sure to avoid that particular person as they will be able to instantly identify you as incorrect knowing all of their staff. It isn’t clear if you can become said leader by using their uniform as yet.

After this I spent the entire day in pre-booked sessions, starting out by playing a press competition of eternal step, a game I will be looking forward to showing you separately, an action rogue-like where you collect treasure cards which you use at the end of each floor to discard or modify your equipment in order to progress as far as possible before inevitable failure (or possibly success when the game is completed and has an ending.) The game is very fun and can get very challenging when you’re running low on hp with no potions, I made it to the first boss on floor 20 before inevitably failing, but I did set the record where other press have only managed around floor 11 and 12 at most.

The rest of the day was spent around the indie gaming section playing on sublevel zero which I had to get out there as involved in the team is phi from tinykeep, and the game itself is a challenging homage to decent with additional elements such as crafting your weapons and modifying your ship as it stands it is a very difficult game with sprawling procedurally generated worlds.

After this I played a space station management sim which I proceeded to break and another point and click adventure which again broke, don’t forget that a lot of these games are early in development and not fully finished so you can expect all of these issues to be resolved upon full release, after this I had a session with riot: civil unrest which was an interesting riot simulator which rather ambitiously provides each individual crowd member with their own ai and adaptive ai which responds to how you have acted throughout the game, so crowds get more frenzied if your police force are heavy handed and have a bad reputation, but also adapt to how they have individually been treated so at this state it currently allows for around 10 minutes of playtime before the game crashes, this will be fixed in time for a full release and additional factors such as vehicles and more gameplay modes will be activated but it is definitely an interesting concept to keep an eye out for, which I shall hopefully bring you more on as it progresses.

After this I had a session booked with pollen, a space simulator in virtual reality on a station on a moon on titan, however as the queue’s were busy I only got to play for 5 minutes before being ushered off despite booking a session which was said to last for 30 minutes in the email so I cannot tell you much about the game itself unfortunately, I have emailed the developer but have yet to receive a response.

I’m not sure if I covered this in the video but I did get to play on rise of the tomb raider at the end as well, when I had a problem attempting to leave the first area I had to ask for help, because it had not been tutorialised that you needed to shoot blocks of concrete to destroy them on spikes, which appeared to be the largest unbreakable part so even with experimenting I shot at the cracked wood, the thin pillar it was attached to and everything but the large and in reality least likely to break part of the blockage.

The representative stated that they wanted to have a more “dark souls” experience not providing any information to the player, however this seemed a major blockage not only to progress but attempting to enjoy the demo. Thankfully after this I was able to progress and even found for myself a hint button essentially listening to lara’s heart (as it beat a heart while giving a slight hint to the solution highlighted with a vocal cue) however the platforming elements proved very awkward, as many of the scenery elements which were climbable looked identical to those which you could never climb, and a lot of the action came down to quicktime events rather than actual fun gameplay elements. I had hoped this would be a return to more of the original tomb raider elements however I was left disappointed simply with the way the platforming and navigation of the rooms worked, being unable to climb onto pillars and surfaces that were completely reachable, not being able to climb the same ribbed wall as you climb elsewhere just because that isn’t the path to progress, and ultimately black screening the game as perhaps I passed the time limit being stuck in the first room for 5 minutes before asking for help because the very factor to destroy the blockage was never tutorialised or hinted at.

On the way out of the show with things closing I managed to get a quick play on total war arena, which if you enjoy the total war franchise is a much simplified version of the game, with point and click ordering of troops, activatable powers and real time online multiplayer in 10vs10 action. Troop customization and leveling occurs outside of the actual gameplay to make combat quick and fun with no pausing or problems and meaning that real time adjustments to all of your troops in a quick and efficient manner is a must.

I will have a much more in depth review of the actual show in a separate article and a few of the games I will be able to bring to you in much more detail in their own reviews also, so watch this space for more.

With EGX 2015 literally around the corner I thought it was a good idea to post about some of the latest game announcements, and the newly announced after show parties on friday and saturday night while tickets are still available (but running out fast)

Firstly if you’re interested in getting in on the after parties you will need to buy a special ticket, ordinary entry will not work and you could get party entry even if you don’t have an egx ticket as it is its own thing, tickets are available now at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/egx-2015-community-party-tickets-18468815725 Note that these parties run at the same time as the yogscast sessions, so you will have to choose between them or be very late to the party ;-) I will be attending the saturday party personally for anyone wishing to find me at the event.

Wait you want some information about the parties? Well there will be drinking, gaming and chances to meet both game devs and youtubers in a friendly social climate. Games available to play at the party will be gang beasts, rocket league, WiFi wars, rock band 4 and even napoleon dynamite dancing! So there will be plenty of fun to be had, and probably some really embarrassing and bad dance moves and singing across the stages (with possibly some greatness, you know how these things are you get both the great and the bad)

New announcements for the xbox and nintendo stands include Halo 5, Star Fox Zero, Forza 6, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Xenoblade Chronicles X, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes and over 30 more games. My email didn’t differentiate which would be on which stand but zelda, star fox and tri force heroes are clearly nintendo offerings, and a number of these are games I would be very interested in bringing coverage for.

Playstation have a number of more well known releases including Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Destiny: The Taken King, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and 25 more massive games, it is hard to say which console are championing the indie releases here as previously playstation had pointed out this would be a ps4 major selling point, so I will look and see who covers the most and best indie titles at the event.

Sony do have “project morpheus” at the event “playable” however it seems that although the site was launched live today at 1pm, the site never worked correctly for windows 7 either with the latest microsoft windows nor google chrome, and although I could get to stage 2 of booking no time slots ever appeared, then later it states that all slots have been booked, so if you were looking forward to playing it appears that only booked slots allowed you to gain access and these have all been claimed for the entire weekend, and with how fast these slots were filled I can imagine there is a lot of disappointment going around.

Don’t forget that there are over 300 screens of playable indie games, cosplay events, competitions, esports finals with large prize pots, and great opportunities to socialize, buy merchandise, and even get advice on getting a career within the gaming industry all within the event.

Don’t forget to claim your free game of orbital gear from bundlestars just for purchasing an egx ticket, as every ticket holder gets the game.

I have arranged some sessions with developers, including eternal step a game which won’t be available for public play but I will bring you details of, sublevel zero, riot civil unrest, and pollen. I will attempt to get some extra sessions planned and hopefully some more VR titles from the different hardwares.

If you would like to arrange a session with me get in touch, and if there are any particular games you would like me to ensure I cover do be sure to let me know.

So with Eurogamer Expo literally next week be sure to grab your tickets, Last Tickets to EGX itself are running very low so don’t miss out https://www.egx.net/egx/tickets
