work issues (again)

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

I was going to call this 60 days later as a play on 28 days later as the last work issues post was 60 days ago, but yeah anyway…

I was confirmed as booked in for working the weekend at relentless nass on a bar down there, so that means travelling to shepton mallet from birmingham right, was on a train from 9am, get to castle cary, catch the bus to shepton mallet, cant find the people to sign in with so phone them up and they say “oh sorry we dont need you go home” and they refuse to pay the costs of my transport down south which as you can understand were quite considerable, end up getting back home at 11:30PM having spent the entire day on public transport and was going a little stir crazy by the end of the journey, quite frankly the company I am supposed to be working for take the piss and are absolute crap, its just finding a replacement job thats the thing which isnt easy in this climate in the slightest.

Try me free promotions

Friday, January 30th, 2009

In the past I have taken up try me free promotions, where it doesnt state you must be dissatisfied in order to recieve your money back, just to try the product for free send proof of purchase and you will get your money back. Well in the past I have taken up these offers and not recieved my money back, then of course as you have sent your reciept and your wrapper you no longer have the proof of purchase. Two of the companies which have offered this and not produced the funds were coca cola who make powerade, the product was a bit watery and not what I was expecting for the price paid. The other was the makers of aero who had a special try me promotion accross a number of chocolates they were producing, I noticed it on buying a pack of aero mint, it stated other chocolates which were on the try me free, some flavours Id not tried before so I picked them up to try, a couple of which I did not like at all, and still after sending my reciept etc they didnt send my funds back, so now I am put off trying products as part of a “try me free” promotion as I know that they never send the money back and are impossible to get in touch with as I have tried continuousely contacting powerade/coca cola and they do not respond, and how would I prove my purchase after Ive already sent off my wrapper and till reciept to them? Id much rather print off something from thier website and take the voucher into the store to try a product free than send off after purchase as a lot of manufacturers seem to not want to pay back thier promised “try me free” deals.

On a seperate matter yesterday I recieved a text from orange PAYG about yet another change to thier topup system, this time you no longer get the VAT saving you are now forced to pay the additional 2.5% vat regardless of whether you want to or not, and this goes into a fund for the purchase of a new phone… with £1 for every £10 you topup, of course this is more money than the VAT saving of 25p but if you think about how much a new phone costs, at least £100-£200 that would require topping up £1000-£2000 how long would that take for the average payg customer, if you are using that much credit you would surely be on a pay monthly plan with better deals and savings, imagine you top up £10 per month, thats at least 10-20 months before you could possibly have enough saved, who’s saying the system wont have changed by then? What happens to the funds you’ve saved up do you get them as a cash payout? Do you get them in credit? No I think orange would pocket it all themselves. And what about the majority of PAYG customers who would not use thier phone that frequently, a lot of people have payg as emergency phones etc where the credit is used infrequently and definately would not be topped up that often, especially with the credit crunch effecting even more people, I believe that less people would be topping up so much as to benefit from this deal.

Did they rewrite the end of the butterfly effect? I just saw it on tv last night, but the first time I saw it on tape the ending was different, in this one when he didnt have journals he watched a home movie and made sure he never spoke to the girl for everything to work out, when I watched it on tape round an ex’s when he was in the mental institution he went back to when he was in the womb and strangled himself with the ambilicle cord so that he wasnt born and couldnt ruin everything, Im guessing that ending was too dark for tv so they changed it? It makes you wonder was the ending different again at the movies? I think the bad ending works better as the one where everything works out is too open ended and doesnt explain how he is now perfectly fine even though every time he changed the past he became increasingly ill as his brain had even more thoughts crammed inside, by the end surely he had 80+ years of memories which would have drove him crazy like his father. I did wonder how the butterfly effect 2 would have worked, which I still havent seen, but it opens the possibility that it is him again trying to change things rather than someone else or his father, or a future child which would have been conceived as he killed himself before he was born and his parents may have tried again for a child. I know thats not associated with the main post of this blog but rather than write an entire article for it I thought Id post it on the end here.

The circle of the credit crunch and a few random thoughts

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Okay so its been a while since I wrote something, a few things I was going to write about have passed like the discovery that there is a black hole at the center of the universe, well of course there is everything is circling a big black mass at the center like water circling a plughole, I think that was a pretty obvious thing, maybe origonally there was a supermassive sun which exploded and created the hole in the center who is to know, but it certainly makes the “dark matter” theory some people had pointless as the massive weight of such a large black hole makes thier dark matter mean that the weight of the universe wouldnt be stable, as Ive always thought if you have to invent something you cant prove just to make something fit youve missed something, and they missed out the weight of black holes and the mass and gravitational effects they produce.

Okay now onto the title issue, of the credit crunch and how it is a self defeating circle, as people have less funds to spend there is less need for people to work so people end up losing shifts so they have even less disposeable income which means there is even less money being spent on the economy reducing the need for workers further.  The government try to bail out failing industries but are just throwing money into nothing as it would be far better to let a failing business fail and focus on saving those which are copeing and providing support for those without work as a result.  It also appears that as a result many people are buying the “value products” but as they do it means that most shops sell out of these products, and even tv shows encourage the migration to buy lower value products not realising that by everyone doing so those that have had to survive on these all along are finding that there is no longer the option to buy these as the supermarkets run out and dont restock them very often.

On another matter related, the euro exchange rate is 1.05921 according to www.x-rates.com however when I went into the post office to exchange some euros to pounds they charged me the rate of 1.1373 which is stealing rather a lot to be fair considering they are supposed to be commision free exchanges.  I would sooner pay some commission and know what Im paying rather than sneakily be taken advantage of with a rate much higher than the actual exchange rate.

I also think it was funny how dispatches were trying to make out that the supermarkets should take a hit on thier profits of a few pence on the value products and make better quality products, the chances of that happenning very slim, but of course the general public are going to say yes they should when asked, if you went around asking the supermarkets theyre all going to say no…

Finally that flora buttery advert, gary rhodes travels the nation asking people which margerine product they prefer flora buttery or lurpack spreadable (read the smallprint) by a majority of 6 people out of 200 they prefer flora buttery, and if they had prefered lurpack no doubt the advert would have been a lurpack advert, confirming that of course the public thought what the creators of the spread thought, that the nation preferred thier product, because it was deeply bias, one of thier products or the other.  And you could hardly say a 3% majority a landslide win.

nicotine and cigarettes

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Okay so its been known for a very long time that cigarettes are full of crap and added shite which fucks up your body… yet they have also been releasing the nicorette inhalers etc, which are basically a clean way of getting a nicotine fix, the drug from the cigarettes, so why dont they just ban cigarettes and sell nicotine as a highly taxed product? People can still get thier fix, and the government can still get thier taxes.. If its not strong enough then why not just pump up the concentration to give people a bigger hit, and sell it as a recreational drug. The only reason that alchohol and nicotine are legal is because the government want the taxes, and its a form of control, if they have a drug or two which are legal it reduces the number of people who will go elsewhere for other drugs to escape thier hundrum lives.

Heck then know very well if they wanted to they could simply adapt cigarettes to not include tar and all the damaging ingredients in order to make a cleaner safer recreational drug, but instead they think simply putting images on a package which people will ignore will do enough to stop people, they wont care, its like football because its the social thing to do the majority of the public get involved, and its all spread during high school people go from there, they see other popular people doing it, they see thier tv idols smoking and its ingrained into the public image, the only true way to stop it would be to ban it, or to make it safe. Of course they know that if they made it safe many many more people would do it, and abuse it.

Heck its well known that nicotine and alchohol are some of the most damaging drugs, but the government only cares of the tax it gets from the sales of these items and the control it has over the public, and they wonder why theres major mental health issues throughout the nation, because we are a nation of drugged up people, all of your life is based on the consumption of drugs, if you have a sniffle you “must” buy the latest lemon based drug to stop your cold even though your body is more than capable of stopping it, thus training it to rely on drugs and not your natural healing ability, there are day and night capsules to control your body to put you to sleep and wake you up, so that you dont have to rely on your body and let it recover and rest as it tells you to, in order to allow you to work 70 hour weeks you must work in order to pay for things in this world.

With the ammount of drugs we all pump into our systems daily, caffine, nicotine, additives, heck if youve ever drank a can of red bull some of the percentages of your daily intake of certain substances are in the 1000% range. Add to that the pollution in the air, (some parts of the uk the pollution is bad enough that its equal to smoking 4 cigarettes per day just breathing the air) Your microwaved food, both from your own home and the inevitable microwaved food that is passed as cooked in major restaurant/pub chains in order to meet the demands of food that is delivered fast. Has anyone ever considered how much radiation we take in through this in our lifetime, how do you even know when your microwave is leaking, surely there should be some sort of safety feature like something on the outside that glows if there is a leak during its lifetime, because most people will have microwaves far longer than they are expected to have them, when they start to take longer to cook things, is this a natural decay of the atomic element or has the microwave sprung a leak? after all its a radioactive element sat in your kitchen.

On top of that most of these have symptoms that are easily hidden, and a world which only cares for itself rather than other people so they fail to notice when someone is suffering, parents blind to see symptoms so they pretend not to notice, or are just plain oblivious to symptoms, these things are genetic they get passed on, and as we progress more and more of the uk will suffer from mental health problems as we pass these down onto our kids and thier kids, until eventually the whole world suffers, and are then force fed drugs to control them until we have a state much like in the film equilibrium where you have daily drugs you must take in order to control you so you dont feel emotions and you are a drone to work as society expects you to with no life. I wouldn’t be at all suprised if it isnt long before we are given drugs we must all take in order to combat the nations growing mental health problems, which undoubtedly will lead to further problems.

The worst of it all is the over the counter medication you can get without symptoms though, hypocondriacs, and the world which are told by tv you must take drugs the instant you have a sneeze, defeating your natural immune systems allowing super bugs to thrive and get use to medications. We all need to stop useing and abusing and only be able to take such drugs under a prescription after careful deliberation and the knowledge that the body cannot cope without the drugs, maybe then we might have less symptoms in the world.

The home of the prisoner

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Okay so the tv series the prisoner was repeated on tv recently, and as a result there was a coach trip to visit port meirion the home of the prisoner (affectionately known as the village), where the tv series was based and filmed… okay, so you pay the coach fare through malvernian tours, which is supposed to include entry, but when you get there you have to pay an additional entry fee (which was also widely disputed, the coach driver states x ammount, which you can pay to him directly, or get off the coach and pay the toll keeper, we chose to pay the toll keeper rather than wait for the coach driver wasting time.. of course the toll keeper knows nothing and tries to charge about 3 times the cost of what the driver quoted… so we talk, he goes off talks to a manager, then uses special concession rates which were noted on a different sign hidden in the office (which obviousely is the normal rate when they arent expecting coaches) this was still double the cost, so we had to dispute even further until eventually he gave in and gave us the advertised rate…

Okay so now youre inside, you would expect that having paid to get in that they would have made some effort to preserve the scene or at least make it look themed to the prisoner, but no Im afraid apart from the prisoner shop selling branded merchendise at a very ripoff price you would be hard found to find much that you could recognise from the program. The houses all have names, where in the series they were simply numbered, there is no identifiable house to say which belonged to number 6 in the tv series, you cannot go into any inside area that would have been fun to see like the command center or number 2’s office, I mean if youve had to pay to get in surely keeping these in situe would have been a clever marketing ploy, and giving tours, but no none of that, no effort at all made to preserve the features of the show, even the cafe from the show is gone, there is however a different cafe elsewhere but its far too modern and looks nothing like in the program. So charging to get in somewhat defeats the purpose in my view, and is a big waste of money.

But what can you do youve paid to get on a coach and youve been taken to the place its either pay to get in or wander the wilderness of nothingness that surrounds the village. Even though it was supposed to be included in the price paid previousely. I just cant see what charging an entry fee to such a small place with now seemingly no reasonable reason to charge does for the place, no wonder they charge such extortionate rates for the memorabilia inside, because customers cant get in to buy unless theyve paid large entry fee’s. I felt sorry for the young girls working in the stores, they must’ve felt like prisoners themselves, and they mustve been shocked to see someone as young as me in the town as mostly it was very old people on the tour and Im sure its like that most days, I swear one of them was giving me the eye… had I been on my own mightve been worth trying it on.. but alas lol…

Anyway I wouldnt go again, nowhere near what I expected of the place, I at least expected there to be some remenents and recognisable parts of the show you could see, and to be able to go look inside buildings like number 6’s house, number 2’s and the command center, but there was nothing of the sorts. The most interesting thing there was an out of place golden budda. Why people would want to pay to stay in the hotel at the place is beyond me, we were only there a few hours and did and saw everything there was to see there, its a village in the middle of knowhere, what could you do other than sit inside and watch tv all day?

what is wrong with american tv

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Well written well thought out and well made tv shows like threshold, invasion, fireflies (which had the film serenity made due to its popularity) get axed either mid season or at the end of season 1 just because of poor viewing figures in america.. why dont they think of the global market for once, global broadcast all at the same time see where it is popular in other countries and produce them for there. It will be cost effective as you will see that people watch them and you will get the money in, just because america dont view it due to ratings clashes or poorly chosen spots where something is on the other side more popular, its a shame to see these series go to waste.

Invasion is one it was shown in the uk, and had good ratings but no new series was made because the us didnt watch it, fireflies was so popular and in demand that they made a film to try and stop the flood of complaints from fans of the series, threshold was cancelled mid series, but it has a well thought out plotline, and would have had a unique feature to the series had it continued, because series 1 was threshold, but by the end of series 1 which obviousely was cut short there would have been a significant “infectee” presence, so series 2 was planned to be called foothold, to signify the second stage of “the plan” obviousely you would have to see the series to get anything I am on about, and stage 3 of the plan for invasion was in the case of a significant population of aliens, would have been the stranglehold phase, and that would have been series 3.. but no we have to make do with tv program’s being cut off in thier prime, and put up with the drole uninteresting crap the bbc puts out like eastenders etc.. Sorry thats just not my cup of tea. Which is where I can point to my idea of a global tv subscription where all programmes are transmitted globally, it is possible, and for the fee of the tv license better program’s would be on offer and better choice.. sky have the right idea with pay as you go tv.. put everything up as a downloadable program which gets streamed to your tv, pay a fair price for it.. that way you pay for only what you want to watch, heck I know that would be far cheaper than the cruddy tv licence annually, and Id get to see things Im interested in in times Im interested in seeing them. Now all we need is the world to catch up and put everything like that, perhaps then they would be able to get global rankings of thier tv program’s due to everyone accross the world getting the program at the same time, and showing them how demanded the tv is.

amazon product ripoff for a ps1 game

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Was looking around amazon to use a voucher I have, and put products under £10, of course the irritating thing with amazon is all the times that you can put that and the actual amazon new prices are vastly outside the search criteria instead it shows products from other people which are outside voucher jurisdiction etc…

Anyway to my horror and suprise I saw the following product, at one thousand pounds for a playstation one game, this must be some highly rare saught after product you would think, but I think not, look at how other people on the marketplace offer it from 1p lol, quite a markup to be made, perhaps worth buying at one pence and putting on ebay? lol somehow I suspect you would never make anything like one thousand from the sale of such an item, unless platinum coated in a diamond case and high tech beyond ps3 graphics on a ps1 game!

Highly unlikely

Working reasonable hours with a reasonable break?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Working for creative events at the NEC the companies acceptable employment policy is that you will be happy to work from 7am no matter where you live up until 4pm with no break and no food, then have 20 minutes (or as long as it takes you to eat a tiny sandwhich a packet of crisps a kitkat and an apple) then have the supervisor come and say youve finished eating get back to work, where you are then expected to work for another 2 hours minimum up to 4 hours, or up to until 10pm or later sometimes on closedown days.

Or course for me to make it there that early I have to wake up at 4am and set out at 5am to make the transportation links to get to the NEC in time for 7am. All the time getting hungrier and lacking the energy to actually do a decent days work, of course I get comments about being one of the best barrista’s they have but it doesn’t matter that I’m being starved and I’m not exactly one of the biggest people in the world far from it, I actually need to keep my energy levels maintained at a reasonable level or I do get highly irritable.

Doing this as a daily job day in day out in the middle of winter being frozen in the mornings even though Im wearing 4 coats on top of things I still catch a cold, being weak from lack of food of course I was bound to get ill, but they don’t consider that so I guess Ill just find somewhere which actually understands that if you want someone to remain well and still do a good job you’ve got to treat them right rather than just a body to fill the space, no wonder I was one of the best workers, I actually made an effort rather than being a spaced out zombie lacking food, or stealing all the cookies to eat.

Besides isn’t it a legal requirement that you get 30 minutes break for 6 hours work, 45 for 7, an hour for over 8 hours work… hmmm I’m pretty sure I only signed out of the 48 hour working week, not all of my legal rights. But hey the law doesn’t care everyone seems to break it even ITC who are supposed to keep your tv clean before 9PM dont care anymore.

Wasted journeys

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Okay so after seeing an advert online for a room at £135 per month, including all bills and broadband of course I was interested (and I specify the advert did say per month) emailed the person and arranged to view the propety. Being quite poor or course I walked to the place, which was quite a trek away from where I am right now, to get there and be told that the place was only available for one month as someone else was going to move in in february, why on earth would you advertise it let it out to someone for the next month onwards and then say its still available? Utterly pathetic, another long trek back, which I must add on the way there roadsigns had been stolen so roads where nameless and it was even harder to find the place.

I need my own flat, and one that I can afford, why is this so impossible. Im thinking I dont even care which town I end up in just so long as Ive got a place which is affordable, I just dont care anymore its that impossible to find somewhere of your own to live. (because society is priced for couples to be sharing the cost of living not an individual to be able to afford to rent eat and pay bills without working 70 hours a week.)

People standing still in doorways

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

This is one irritating thing I dont get. Why on earth do people thing the best place to slow down or come to a complete halt is right in the doorway of a shop? The street, or further inside the shop theres plenty of room for people to get past, but if you decide to stand still in the entrance thats just stupid. Theres little room to go around and you’re stopping traffic. Would it be acceptable to stop at the entrance or exit to a motorway? I think not, so if I decide to squeeze past you after you ignore me saying excuse me then don’t get annoyed, find somewhere better to stand.

Second to this is where people decide to stand right in front of products on a shelf and have a conversation so you cant actually see the shelf, stand back let people get to shelves.

Do we really need some sort of written etiquette so that theres rules to follow or can people actually start using there common sense and stand out of the way and not cause a blockage. Also don’t suddenly without looking change direction completely that you’re walking in, I do keep an eye out for how and which direction people are walking but suddenly reversing and running into me, stop and turn around or something!

Finally, having a pram is not a reason to ram people, people will move out of the way for you, I know I do, but just ramming it into me is kind of inexcusable, sometimes I think if you’re going to do that I shouldn’t have to jump physically to avoid treading on your child you have just rammed into me. Do you not have any sort of care for your child you’re putting them at risk ramming them towards someones legs, Im so tempted to tread on a child sometimes just because you’ve seen my feet are walking there and shoved your child into my foot, why should I react to stop treading on your child you’ve shoved there.
